Supporting Your Kidney Disease Journey, Every Step of the Way

A wealth of resources are available to help you on your quest to learn more about chronic kidney disease (CKD) and dialysis. Below are several categories with links to other exceptional organizations that help those with kidney disease.

Visiting Hours:

  • We usually have designated visiting hours to minimize disruption to patient care and rest.
  • These hours can vary between different units or wards within the hospital.
  • For example, Dialysis wards may have specific restrictions, especially regarding children.

Infection Control:

  • Visitors with symptoms of illness, such as colds or the flu, are generally discouraged from visiting.
  • Specifically, a medical mask is recommended for routine care, whereas a respirator (airborne precautions) is recommended if HCWs are conducting an aerosol-generating procedure such as endotracheal intubation, bronchoscopy or airway suctioning, along with droplet precautions
  • Hospitals often require visitors to sanitize their hands upon entry and may provide hand sanitizer stations.
  • Some hospitals may prohibit outside food and flowers to minimize infection risks.
Other Guidelines:

  • Children’s presence may be limited or restricted in certain areas, particularly in maternity or critical care units.

  • Hospitals may have policies about the number of visitors allowed at one time.

  • Some areas may have restrictions on cell phone use.

  • Visitor passes or identification may be required.

  • Visitors may be asked to remain on the designated unit and to return their passes upon the patient’s discharge.
